Waste Processing Technician
About the Role
The Waste Processing Technician is responsible for the safe handling, receiving, consolidating, and processing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials within the processing facility. Materials may include used oils, filters, aerosols, flammable liquids, detergents, and a variety of industrial or retail waste streams, including damaged products.
This entry-level role requires a strong safety mindset, solid work ethic, and the ability to perform moderately labour-intensive and repetitive tasks in a warehouse environment. Processing Technicians at this level are developing foundational skills that support progression through the technician pathway, including accuracy in receiving, understanding waste streams, and safe operation of equipment.
Candidates should demonstrate a desire to learn, improve, and contribute to continuous improvement within the facility. Basic computer and technical proficiency is required, as key processes—such as receiving, documentation, and safety checks—are completed through digital systems.
The standard work schedule consists of an 8-hour shift occurring between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Key Responsibilities
Receive, inspect, and process incoming waste streams safely, accurately, and efficiently.
Accurately complete all paperwork, labels, and documentation.
Verify incoming materials meet acceptance protocols; complete discrepancy reports when required.
Assist with loading and unloading trucks, totes, and containers.
Operate processing equipment and machinery in accordance with safety procedures and training.
Conduct job hazard assessments and contribute to a strong safety culture.
Provide excellent internal and external customer service.
Maintain facility cleanliness through general housekeeping and equipment upkeep.
Support additional facility tasks and activities as needed.
Requirements
Valid Class 5 driver’s license with reliable transportation.
Ability to lift 50+ lbs, perform repetitive physical tasks, and stand on concrete for extended periods.
Ability to work in all weather conditions.
Strong communication skills and attention to detail in completing paperwork.
Problem-solving and organizational skills.
Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Forklift experience is an asset (training may be available).
