Team Leader, Talent Acquisition
About the Role
The Team Leader, Talent Acquisition is a strategic partner to the business, responsible for delivering workforce planning, recruitment strategies, and talent programs that support GFL Environmental’s operational excellence and growth.
This role leads a team of Talent Acquisition professionals supporting high-volume, multi-site hiring while also contributing to enterprise projects and talent programs such as early-career pipelines, process improvements, and technology or system enhancements. The Team Leader acts as a trusted advisor to Operations and HR leaders while ensuring recruitment practices are scalable, cost-effective, and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Lead national and regional recruitment strategies aligned with business priorities and workforce plans
- Partner with Operations & HR Business Partners to forecast hiring demand using workforce data, turnover trends, and labor market insights
- Advise leaders on talent availability, market conditions, and hiring risks
Relationship Management & Stakeholder Partnership
- Build strong, consultative relationships with hiring managers and senior leaders
- Set clear expectations around role requirements, timelines, and hiring accountability
- Act as an escalation point for complex or critical hiring challenges
Effectiveness, Efficiency & Cost Optimization
- Drive cost-conscious recruitment models focused on direct sourcing, referrals, and early-career programs
- Reduce reliance on external agencies through improved internal sourcing capability
- Monitor and improve recruitment KPIs including time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, quality-of-hire, and recruiter productivity
Projects & Program Support
- Lead or contribute to Talent Acquisition projects and enterprise initiatives (e.g., process improvements, Workday enhancements, early-career programs)
- Partner cross-functionally to support program planning, change communication, and adoption
- Track project progress, identify risks, and support successful implementation
People Leadership & Capability Building
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of recruiters, fostering accountability and continuous improvement
- Support onboarding, training, and ongoing development of Talent Acquisition team members
- Provide hands-on support for complex searches and stakeholder alignment
Governance, Compliance & Process Excellence
- Ensure recruitment practices comply with employment legislation and human rights requirements
- Promote equitable, inclusive, and bias-aware hiring practices
- Own recruitment process standards and data integrity within Workday
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 6+ years of progressive full-cycle recruitment experience
- Previous experience leading, coaching, or mentoring recruitment teams
- Experience supporting operational, multi-site, or high-volume hiring
- Experience supporting TA projects or programs demonstrating impactful results.
- Ability to travel up to 25%
