Senior Human Resources Business Partner
The Opportunity
At GFL Environmental, we believe our people are our most sustainable asset. We are seeking a Senior Human Resources Business Partner to act as a high-level strategic consultant to our Ontario leadership teams. This is a critical role designed for a seasoned HR professional who can balance operational excellence with long-term organizational strategy.
As the SHRBP, you won’t just manage HR processes—you will build high-functioning partnerships with senior leaders to drive innovation, manage complex labor relations, and ensure our HR strategies directly support GFL’s vision and growth.
Your Strategic Impact
Executive Partnership: Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and managers, providing high-level guidance on labor relations, policy interpretation, and legislative compliance across the Ontario region.
Labor Relations: Lead grievance meetings and provide strategic support for arbitrations and collective agreement negotiations in partnership with the Labor Relations Director.
Organizational Design & Change: Design and lead regional change management initiatives. You will leverage HR metrics and data insights to inform strategy, guide decision-making, and measure the impact of HR programs.
M&A Integration: Play an active, collaborative role in Mergers and Acquisitions, ensuring seamless HR integration and cultural alignment during transition periods.
Talent & Performance Architecture: Partner with the Learning & Development team to create development programs that build leadership bench strength. Provide sophisticated coaching to managers on performance optimization and conflict resolution.
Data-Driven Fiscal Justification: Analyze complex data sets (staffing, turnover, absenteeism, and productivity) to provide fiscal justification for personnel activities and resource deployment.
Team Mentorship: Lead and mentor a team of HR professionals, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous professional development.
What You Bring
Experience: 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including a mandatory background in large, complex, and highly unionized environments.
Leadership: Proven experience managing and developing a team of HR professionals.
Strategic Mindset: Demonstrated ability to write professional business cases, labor briefings, and corporate communications that influence senior stakeholders.
Technical Mastery: Proficiency in HRIS systems (Workday preferred) and the Google/Microsoft Office suites.
Compliance Expert: Deep knowledge of Human Rights and Employment Standards, with the judgment to resolve complex matters independently.
Education: CPHR/SHRM designation or an equivalent professional credential is preferred.
Ability to travel in and around GTA/surrounding areas.
