Residential Helper

Key Responsibilities
The Mission: Safely assist drivers in the collection of residential solid waste and recyclables, ensuring our Fairburn neighborhoods stay clean.
Loading & Sorting: Efficiently load materials into the vehicle and sort recyclables into appropriate compartments.
Safety Navigation: Act as the "second set of eyes" for the driver, assisting with backing up and maneuvering in tight spaces.
Equipment Operation: Operate hydraulic compacting equipment and ensure the truck is stocked with necessary tools (brooms, shovels, etc.) before leaving the yard.
Customer Service: Maintain a professional demeanor and identify/tag prohibited waste items to keep our community and equipment safe.
Teamwork: Work closely with supervisors to improve routing and ensure every route meets GFL’s high-quality standards.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED is preferred, but not required.
Experience: 1–3 months of related physical labor is a plus, but we are willing to train the right person!
License: A valid driver’s license is a plus.
Reliability: Must be able to meet safety-sensitive function criteria according to Company standards.
Knowledge & Skills
Ability to follow instructions and work independently with limited supervision.
Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with your driver.
A "safety-first" mindset at all times.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
This role is for those who enjoy a physical challenge. You will be moving for the duration of your shift.
Outdoor Performance: Work in the outdoor elements 100% of the time, including high humidity and summer heat.
Physical Strength: Regularly lift/move up to 65 lbs and push/move up to 100 lbs with assistance.
Agility: Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and climbing in and out of the vehicle.
Environment: Constant exposure to traffic, moving mechanical parts, and typical outdoor noise levels.
