Manager, FP&A
Summary
Reporting to the Senior Director, FP&A, the Manager, FP&A – Post-Collection Support will serve as the primary finance partner for GFL’s post-collection operations, including Landfills, Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs), and Transfer Stations. Supporting multiple post-collection Vice Presidents, this role is responsible for delivering high-quality financial reporting, supporting the forecasting and budgeting processes, developing KPIs, and providing deeper financial insights into operational performance, commodity markets, and price/volume trends.
The ideal candidate has strong FP&A experience, exceptional analytical capabilities, and the ability to translate complex operational data into meaningful financial insights. This position plays a critical role in driving performance accountability and supporting strategic decision-making across post-collection operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Analysis Leadership:
- Lead the monthly reporting process for post-collection operations, consolidating results across Landfills, MRFs, and Transfer Stations.
- Provide support during the annual budget cycle, partnering with Operations leaders to validate assumptions, model scenarios, and ensure alignment to corporate targets.
- Review monthly capital expenditure reporting for post-collection and partner with Operations to develop accurate capital forecasts and budget inputs; provide consolidated insights and recommendations to the Capital Planning team to support enterprise-level planning.
- Develop and maintain simple free cash flow analysis for the portfolio, highlighting drivers, risks, and opportunities.
Operations Partnership & Support
- Serve as the finance partner to multiple post-collection VPs, providing monthly business reviews, variance explanations, and financial guidance.
- Build strong relationships with post-collection support teams across various Areas to understand operational performance, cost drivers, volume trends, and strategic priorities.
- Support key business decisions through modeling, sensitivity analysis, and ROI/NPV assessments.
- Report on operational KPIs that help drive accountability, visibility, and productivity across post-collection functions. Additionally, help review and assess KPI integrity in current data system.
Reporting & Insights
- Produce monthly reporting packages, including actual results, forecast updates, executive commentary, and performance dashboards.
- Analyze price/volume trends, operational efficiency, cost structures, and commodity impacts—particularly related to MRF revenues, commodity pricing exposure, and market volatility.
- Identify emerging risks and opportunities and present clear, actionable insights to senior leadership.
- Partner with Operations and Capital Planning to consolidate all post-collection capital requests and ensure alignment with budgeted priorities.
- Identify opportunities to enhance FP&A processes, reporting quality, and forecasting accuracy.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field.
- CPA or CFA designation (or progress toward one) is considered a strong asset.
- 5–8 years of experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or operational finance roles.
- Experience supporting operational functions, preferably in a multi-site, asset-intensive, or industrial environment.
Technical & Analytical Skills:
- Strong financial modeling skills and ability to analyze complex operational and financial data.
- Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Proficiency in Excel and financial planning systems; experience with Workday Adaptive or similar tools is beneficial.
- Understanding of capital expenditure analysis, free cash flow, and operational KPIs.
Leadership & Soft Skills:
- Strong business partnership skills with the ability to influence and guide senior operational leaders.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate financial insights into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Critical thinker with a proactive, continuous-improvement mindset.
- Confident presenter with polished executive-level storytelling capabilities.
