Summary of Role
GFL Environmental Services is focused on reducing, reusing, recycling, recovering, and maximizing value from industrial waste with customers in a broad range of industry sectors. At the North Vancouver Refinery, we specialize specifically in oil recycling.
As a Maintenance Supervisor you are the tactical leader responsible for the daily execution, planning, and scheduling of a unionized maintenance team in a refinery environment. The core focus is to drive a cultural shift toward proactive reliability, moving the team from reactive "break-fix" to Preventative and Predictive Maintenance (PM/PdM). Key responsibilities include leading the implementation of the Eptura CMMS software, managing resource logistics (parts, labor, contractors), ensuring high safety and quality standards, and providing direct supervision.
This is a full-time, permanent position based at our North Vancouver Oil Refinery. The regular work schedule consists of 8-hour days between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. Candidates must be willing and able to work shifts, evenings and Weekend on-call as assignments are determined by operational needs.

Proactive Reliability: Champions the transition to Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and optimizes Preventative Maintenance (PM) checklists.
CMMS & Logistics: Leads the migration to Eptura software. Manages parts procurement ("kitting" of jobs) and coordination of union staff and external contractors.
Leadership & Safety: Provides direct supervision to unionized Maintenance Technicians. Enforces all safety policies (LOTO, Hot Work, etc.) and provides relevant staff training. Follows the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) closely.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Education/Certification: Must possess a Red Seal Journeyman ticket (Millwright, Electrician, or Pipefitter), a Technical Diploma, or an Engineering Technology degree.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of industrial maintenance experience (Refinery, Petrochemical, or Heavy Industrial).

Skills: Deep technical understanding of refinery equipment, strong planning/scheduling ability, aptitude for CMMS (Eptura, Maximo, SAP) implementation, and experience managing a unionized workforce.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
Environment: Split between office (planning) and field work/supervision. Exposure to heat, noise, odors, and chemicals common to a refinery.
Schedule: Primarily business hours, but requires on-call availability for plant upsets and turnarounds (TAR). Must be willing to work scheduled night shifts and extensive overtime, (many consecutive days working 12-14 hours per day during TAR or upsets).
