Labourer
Fort McMurray, Alberta

We are looking for a dependable and hardworking Recycling Facility Labourer to join our operations team. In this hands-on role, you will assist equipment operators and truck drivers in safely preparing, loading, and securing bulk recyclables into open-top trailers. You will play a vital part in maintaining clean loading bays, conducting quality control checks, and ensuring our outbound shipments meet transport standards.
Key Responsibilities
Trailer Loading Assistance: Direct truck drivers into unloading zones, assist with trailer gate operations, and safely guide equipment operators during bulk loading.
Quality Control & Sorting: Visually monitor recyclable materials (cardboard, plastics, metals, paper) during the loading process and remove visible non-recyclable contaminants.
Ground Operations & Site Maintenance: Continuously sweep, shovel, and clear loose debris, spillages, and glass from loading ramps, bays, and trailer perimeters to prevent flat tires and slip hazards.
Safety & Traffic Control: Maintain clear communication with heavy equipment operators using hand signals or two-way radios to coordinate movement in busy staging areas.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: Previous experience in manufacturing, construction, warehouse, or waste management environments is a plus, but no prior experience is required—on-the-job training is provided.
Physical Demands: Ability to perform continuous physical labor, including bending, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs, pulling heavy tarps, and standing for long periods.
Skills: Strong spatial awareness around heavy machinery, good hand-eye coordination, and effective communication skills in a noisy environment.
Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
Work Environment & Schedule
Active industrial recycling yard exposed to seasonal weather conditions (heat, cold, rain), dust, and ambient machinery noise.
Full PPE provided and required at all times (steel-toe boots, high-visibility vest, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hat).
