Human Resources Generalist (12 months)

Summary

This hands-on opportunity will appeal to a dynamic Human Resources professional with the ability to build a role in an operational environment. Reporting to the Senior HR Business Partner, the Human Resources Generalist will support the execution of HR initiatives and practices that support the assigned client groups and the overall organization.

Job Duties

  • Provide support and guidance in the areas of policy and procedures, employee relations and labour relations, including collective agreement interpretation and dispute resolution

  • Provide confidential, professional and balanced support to operational leaders when addressing sensitive employee issues

  • Participate in conversations and localized programs to understand and improve employee engagement, employee retention and reduce turnover

  • Proactively work with managers and supervisors to identify potential issues

  • Be the first point of contact in HR for managers, supervisors and employees for the assigned client groups

  • Support organizational change initiatives for assigned client groups

  • Advise managers on interpretation and administration of HR policies, programs, procedures and collective agreements

  • Compile and report engagement, onboarding, retention and offboarding data to identify trends, enhance the process and develop strategies for areas of improvement.

  • Investigate employee concerns and ensure follow-through from beginning to end

  • Provide benefits guidance, HRIS support, reporting and auditing

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or related field of study

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in a Human Resources Generalist capacity, with demonstrated experience in both unionized and non-unionized workplace environments

  • CPHR designation or working towards

  • Knowledge and experience of current Labour Laws, the Labour Relations Code, Human Rights and Employment Standards

  • Experience working with labour relations issues

  • High attention to detail and a proven track record of completing project tasks

  • Ability to work independently, under pressure and adapt to evolving priorities and timelines

  • Customer-focused attitude, with high level of professionalism

  • Project management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to support and contribute to organizational change by building and leveraging professional working relationships

  • Travel will be required to sites being supported (15 - 20%)

  • This will be a 12 months contract role
