Emergency Management Coordinator

Position Summary
Reporting to the Emergency Management & Contract Manager, you will provide consultative services and strategic project planning/ support for our national operations within Canada. You will execute sound management in developing, implementing and maintaining emergency and continuity management solutions for GFL’s HAZMAT Emergency Response Division. Constantly aiming to improve and enhance our client services in Emergency Management, you align with a solid knowledge of oil and gas regulatory requirements, transportation/ chemical industry standards and best practices within the management of incident pre-planning. You are a proven leader and facilitator, with experience developing and implementing emergency response and continuity management plans including; response/ capability requirements, exercise design and coordination.
Key Accountabilities
Perform technical writing functions that include gap analysis, plan development, consequence modelling, risk assessment, and contractor verification forms for Emergency Response Assistance Plans regulated by Transport Canada for Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Environmental Emergency (E2) Plans regulated by Environment and Climate Change Canada
Development of emergency management training and exercises; prepare timely reports to accurately reflect the outcome of exercises and findings to drive continuous improvement for our clients
Improve client capability with respect to emergency preparedness by developing effective educational programs and providing input into related GFL training programs
Provide project coordination assistance on ER projects.
Communication with clients, government bodies, GFL Emergency Response Teams, subcontractors, etc.
Prepare quotes and cost summaries.
Respond to ER calls if required to assist onsite, confined spaces projects, etc.
Requirements, Skills, and Attributes
One to three years of related knowledge and experience working in an emergency management role or equivalent experience in hazardous materials emergency response
Emergency Management Certificate is an asset
Undergraduate degree or certificate in Environmental Science or chemistry is an asset
Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200
Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications
Skills and Knowledge
Bilingual: fully fluent in English and French is an asset
Well-developed written and oral communication skills with high-level experience in representation, negotiation, and training
Previous experience in emergency response roles and activities in industrial, marine, transportation and oil and gas industries
Knowledge of emergency management standards and best practices and industry regulations locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally
Demonstrated ability to engage collaboratively and effectively with internal and external teams, clients and other associated stakeholders
Working Conditions
This position is scheduled Monday to Friday to be based out of any GFL Emergency Response location in Canada
Periodic travel to client locations throughout Canada
Overtime potential for emergency response work (optional)
