Diesel Mechanic Technician

What You’ll Do

As a Diesel Mechanic at GFL, you will:

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on a diverse fleet of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, air brakes, and emissions systems

  • Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards

  • Utilize diagnostic software and tools to efficiently identify and resolve issues

  • Maintain accurate service records and communicate repair needs clearly

  • Work closely with operations and leadership to minimize downtime and maximize fleet reliability

  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and best practices

Mechanic Levels Explained

Diesel Mechanic C (Entry–Intermediate)

  • Performs routine PMs and basic repairs

  • Assists senior mechanics with complex diagnostics

  • Growing skills in diesel systems, hydraulics, and electrical components

Diesel Mechanic B (Experienced)

  • Independently diagnoses and repairs most vehicle systems

  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, air brakes, and electrical systems

  • Mentors junior mechanics and supports shop efficiency

Diesel Mechanic A (Master Technician)

  • Expert-level diagnostics and complex repairs

  • Leads major overhauls and advanced troubleshooting

  • Acts as a technical resource and mentor for the shop

  • Helps drive safety, quality, and continuous improvement

What We’re Looking For

  • Hands-on experience as a Diesel Mechanic (level based on skill and experience)

  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and air brakes

  • Ability to read and interpret diagnostic data and service manuals

  • Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork

  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain, depending on location)

  • ASE certifications are a plus (and supported by GFL!)
