Position Summary

GFL Industrial Services is seeking experienced Vacuum Truck Operators (Class 3 and Class 1) to join our Industrial Services team. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely operating a variety of vacuum and fluid hauling equipment in industrial environments. Services include (but are not limited to) spill response, line flushing, tank cleaning support, power washing support, water hauling, and the loading, hauling, and disposal of various liquids and materials. This role requires a strong safety mindset, mechanical aptitude, professionalism, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a crew.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate vacuum equipment in industrial settings including:

    • Dry vac units

    • Wet vac units

    • Semi-vac units

    • Combo units

    • Tankers (fluid hauling)

  • Perform loading, hauling, and unloading of various liquids, sludge, and industrial materials.

  • Support high-pressure cleaning crews as required.

  • Conduct spill cleanup and line flushing operations.

  • Complete daily pre-trip inspections and maintain accurate driver logs in compliance with NSC regulations.

  • Ensure all documentation related to loads, manifests, and disposal is completed accurately.

  • Follow company policies, site-specific procedures, and environmental compliance requirements.

  • Participate in safety meetings, job hazard assessments (JHAs), and near-miss reporting.

  • Maintain equipment cleanliness and perform minor maintenance to ensure efficient operation.

  • Work independently while managing time, productivity, and communication with dispatch and supervisors.

  • Remain available for after-hours and shutdown work as required.

  • Other duties as required. 

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 months of industrial vacuum truck experience. Experience operating Tankers, Combo Vac, Semi-Vacuum and/or Dry Vac Units.

  • Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brakes and a fairly clean Commercial Drivers Abstract is required; Class 1 Driver’s License is an asset.

  • Ability to operate manual transmission is required.

  • Willingness to work in confined spaces and industrial environments.

  • Availability for after-hours callouts and occasional shutdown work.

  • Valid safety tickets such as First Aid/CPR, Construction Safety Training (CSTS), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), H2S Alive, Confined Space Entry and Fall Protection are considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong safety awareness and experience in industrial settings.

  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills.

  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform minor maintenance and troubleshoot equipment.

  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing manual labour as required.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to documentation accuracy.

  • Ability to adapt to changing job conditions and work in various weather environments.

  • Willingness to travel short-term and stay overnight when required.
