Business Analyst
Position Summary
GFL Environmental Services is currently seeking a Business Analyst to join our growing Edmonton team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate, or an early-career professional looking to build experience, expand their skill set, and grow within a dynamic and collaborative organization.
As a Business Analyst, you’ll play a key role at the intersection of Finance, IT, and Operations, supporting strategic decision-making and continuous process improvement. You’ll use a data-driven approach to identify insights, recommend best practices, and help implement meaningful change across GFL’s expanding business.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Use available data sources and tools to answer business questions, modeling scenarios, and developing metrics and KPI’s.
Compare and contrast performance data between lines of business and report on trends.
Observe and document data management processes. Plan process improvements and translate these into system change requirements.
Maintain prototype reports during initial business review and support finalization of requirements for permanent reports.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
University degree in engineering, finance, economics, mathematics, computer science, or a similar discipline.
1–3 years of relevant experience in a business analyst or similar data-focused role.
Experience in modeling large data sets, performing data manipulation, and designing key performance indicators (KPIs).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions and data analysis tools.
Experience with VBA programming is an asset.
Familiarity with SQL and Cognos is considered an asset.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to convey complex technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
Proven ability to work cross-functionally with business units, IT teams, and project stakeholders to gather requirements and drive outcomes.
Self-starter who thrives in evolving environments, adapts quickly to change, and proactively seeks continuous improvement.
High level of accuracy and precision in data handling, documentation, and reporting.
